EcoDevelopments launches Mixed-Use Ecovillage project in the Boston Neighborhood of Jamaica Plain

EcoDevelopments officially kicked off its new Boston-area project in the popular Boston neighborhood of Jamaica Plain with a well attended "Ecovillage at JP" event. Over 50 interested people enthusiastically participated in an interactive discussion with EcoDevelopments principals about the many features of the proposed transit-oriented Ecovillage. Among the ideas discussed that generated both excitement and positive response included the project’s mix of multiple residential neighborhoods, community-based commercial users, and many types of green sustainable features.

Visioning workshop for Ecovillage at Jamaica Plain

A “visioning” workshop is planned for owners-to-be in the newly-established EV@JP cohousing community. The workshop, to be presented by Kraus-Fitch Architects of Amherst MA, is specially designed to enable participants to better integrate with Ecodevelopments staff in the design and planning of the mixed-use project.

EcoDevelopments principal lead the development and construction of “Sawyer Hill Ecovillage”

Located in a a rural community west of Boston, the 68-unit “Sawyer Hill Ecovillage” is a unique residential development that will become home to 2 cohousing neighborhoods clustered on 12 of 68 wooded acres. It features a combination of social, land planning, green/smart-growth, and energy-conservation aspects that have made this effort a “first of its kind” in the nation.

EcoDevelopments consults on Boston-Area adaptive reuse

EcoDevelopments consulted on the Lawrence MA Ecovillage project, a proposed adaptive reuse of 130,000 square feet of historic brick textile mill building north of Boston area. The project would maintain and upgrade the exterior brick façade and include 100 one- to four-bedroom homes including 25 artist live/work spaces. The proposed Ecovillage would be adjacent to a new $21 million MBTA (Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority) train station, providing Ecovillage residents with a car-free, rapid transit commute into Boston.

EcoDevelopments principals Stew Mayer and Patti Lautner will co-host a presentation at the National Cohousing Conference with Jim Leach of Wonderland Development of Boulder Colorado. The presentation, Cohousers Partnering with Developers?, will focus on the balance of control, risk, and efficiency of a developer/owner partnership model.
